Coming in from the hustle and bustle of San Sebastián’s city center, Lava emanates cool calm— part vacation apartment, part oasis of peace. This three-bedroom apartment has an elemental feel, with a collection of textures and colors reminiscent of volatile volcanic lava. Overlooking a back garden, Lava is totally tranquil and quiet—a country getaway in the middle of the city.
Upon entering, soft light radiating from luxury LED fixtures draws you towards the main living space, an open-plan kitchen that overlooks a dining and living space. Clad in stone, the stylish kitchen invites socializing over bottles of wine. The kitchen’s induction stovetop and top-of-the-line appliances overlook a modern dining table that seats up to eight. The dark grey walls and deep brown hardwood floors lend a rich and cozy feel to the social space.
Down the microcement hallway, decked in dark grey and milky blues, are the three bedrooms. Tuck into the master bedroom, where the piece de resistance is front and center: a fabulously romantic Italian stone bath. Prop your feet up for a bubbly soak (with a glass of bubbly txakoli in hand, of course), right in the middle of the bedroom. This spacious room has a connected bathroom, with separate shower and toilet enclosures and two gorgeous stone sinks.

Lava’s homage to nature and noble materials feels homey, while at the same time maintaining a sleek and modern vibe. All three bedrooms have their own en suite bathroom, with beautiful natural stone basins and custom-built glass-enclosed showers. Two of the bedrooms can hold either a double bed or two single beds, perfect for either traveling friends or couples. Open closets with pipe details and metal cabinets for storing clothes are located in every room.
On sunny days, Lava offers respite from the heat; on San Sebastián’s famous rainy days, it is the perfect place to curl up with coffee or a glass of wine to wait out the drizzle. Finally, an apartment with a high-design sensibility to serve as a base to explore one of Europe’s most elegant cities. This sleek, volcanic vacation home is a unique, unforgettable spot to spend your days in San Sebastián.
Lava’s location is one of the best in San Sebastián. Calle Hernani runs from the Town Hall, on the corner of the Boulevard, past the beautiful and emblematic gardens of Alderdi Eder, and into the city’s shopping district. The beach of La Concha is just a block away, and the peaceful Plaza de Gipuzkoa, swimming with swans and flowers, is two blocks in the other direction. Meanwhile, you have all the famous international shops at your feet, lining the Avenida, as well as some of our favorite independent boutiques, such as Loreak Mendian (Hernani Kalea, 27) and Auzmendi (Askatasunaren Hiribidea, 30), right outside. And should you get hungry after all that shopping, head to the old town for a few pintxos, or pop into Narru (San Martin Kalea, 22) for delicious refined takes on traditional dishes.
